Skills for School

Successful mastery of many academic skills including math, reading, and writing depends on a strong foundation of developmental skills not always taught at school. These developmental skills range from perceptual and motor ability to behavioral and self-regulation skills. At Hand Skills for Children, our ‘Skills for School’ programs have been created by certified Teachers partnered with occupational therapists in order to teach many of the ‘hidden skills’ necessary for school success.

Get Ready for Kindergarten

This group will strive to build a strong foundation for learning by focusing on many of the skills behind the skills necessary for success in the classroom. The children have fun while mastering early academic tasks, such as basic writing and literacy while practicing many of the intangible and challenging skills needed to cope in kindergarten, including following directions, working independently and transitioning between activities.

Math in Motion

This innovative program will teach both the core math facts required for school success and the underlying perceptual, spatial and body skills necessary to understand math concepts. Active play and fun activities will be used to help children ‘get’ math without becoming frustrated or fearful!
